Kathleen Trenchard, Papel Picado

Demonstration and Workshop, June 12, 2-4pm. Exhibit June 12 - July 8

Kathleen Trenchard 1

A native of New Orleans and graduate of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. with a Masters in Painting and Printmaking, Trenchard maintains a studio near downtown San Antonio. She has been researching, collecting, and working in traditional Mexican papel picado (punched paper) ever since she was introduced to the technique while visiting Huixcolotla, near the City of Puebla, Mexico, in the early 90’s. Her work continues to explore contemporary designs, applications and materials suitable for cut work using hammer and chisel.

Workshop attendees will enjoy a demonstration of authentic papel picado (punched paper) techniques and materials. They will learn how this unique folk art is used for celebrations in Mexico, and the history of its evolution from European, Asian and pre-Columbian art forms.

It’s a great way to make colorful, inexpensive and fun decorations,
while learning about Mexican culture and history.

Workshop space is limited so sign up today!

Kathleen’s exhibit and sale at COSAS will include several of Kathleen’s fine art papel picado pieces as well as some of her exclusive products including “Cut it Yourself” kits, note cards, clothing, books and more.  Exhibit will continue through July 8.
