Juan Torres

La Candelaria is the workshop created by the renowned Juan Torres.  It’s purpose is to celebrate the rich history of the crafts that have existed in Mexico throughout the centuries.  During the months of November and December, families have always gathered for holiday celebrations, “Posadas” around the table.  Tables historically were decorated with figures created by local artisans to join in the festivities.  Juan Torres re-creates these figures in clay that is first fired, and then intricately painted.   The property where his home and studio are located also boasts a magnificent museum filled with Juan’s painting and ceramic work.  He and his wife Maria have long been supporters of the arts and culture and also offer internships to gifted university students from the top art programs throughout Mexico.
