Dolores Porras

Picture1

Dolores Porras Enríquez and her husband, Alfredo Regino Ramírez are renowned innovators of the use of color in their Oaxacan clay pieces. Their two step firing process permits the use of multiple colors.  Dolores’ distinctive work began over 30 years ago.  She began affixing animal heads and feet to flower pots.  Then she began placing faces on plates.

She works on several pieces simultaneously, building the bases one day, then decorating them the next.  Since many of her pieces are decorative as well as utilitarian, she takes great care not to use toxic paints and imports her colors from Monterrey.
