Asael is the son of the famous Roberto Castillo (known for his casuelas) of Metapec just west of Mexico City.  His specialty is miniature trees of life which feature some of the most intricate details imaginable.  Asael’s trees of life depict figures that make up stories from the bible.  He layers his interpretation of these stories to form the most gorgeous and delicate works.  Once his clay creations are dried and low fired, he paints with such beautiful detail that the pieces seem to come to life.  Almost all of his pieces are also adorned with Monarch Butterflies which migrate by the millions to the nearby mountains of Michoacan.
