Angelica is a deeply spiritual and reflective woman. Her clay pieces are heavily influenced by indigenous legends and Mexican history. She has lived a challenging life and according to her, fame only began to come to her as late as 1992. She is a staunch defender of women’s rights and self expression in what she believes to be a highly traditional culture. Each piece she creates is special. She does not produce a great volume of work. She works diligently on a single piece for weeks on end and believes many of her pieces reflect a complete theme on a particular subject or point she is trying to convey.
Technically, she is an expert. She uses two types of clay to contribute to the texture and varying coloration in her work, which she does not use paint. She has also developed natural substances, “agobes,” that are additional sources of color.
